Senator Tracy Pennycuick visited Saint Francis Classical Catholic Academy on January 23 to emphasize the importance of School Choice Week, which runs from January 26 to February 1. The academy benefits from educational improvement tax credits that offer scholarships, enabling families to select schools according to their preferences.
The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) in Pennsylvania is a state program designed to provide low- and middle-income students with access to quality education. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, EITC received an additional $75 million, increasing its total funding to $630 million.
"Saint Francis Classical Catholic Academy is one of many private, religious academic institutions that offer families excellent educational opportunities outside of the public school system," stated Senator Pennycuick. "Parents should be allowed to choose where they want to send their kids to school to ensure the best academic outcome."
New regulations effective from July 1, 2024, mandate that at least 90 percent of scholarship donations must fund eligible scholarships, with up to 10 percent allocated for administrative fees.
