Rep. Donna Scheuren announced a significant financial boost for the Aqua Pennsylvania Superior Main Water Treatment Facility, courtesy of PENNVEST. The facility will receive $9.5 million, with $7,842,004 as a grant and $1,650,996 as a loan.

PENNVEST is dedicated to supporting projects in Pennsylvania that enhance sewer systems, stormwater management, and drinking water quality. Its funding sources include state funds, federal contributions, and recycled repayments from past awards.

“This is spectacular news for residents of the 147th District,” said Scheuren. “This funding will allow the Aqua Pennsylvania Superior Main Water Treatment Facility to complete a major project that will help improve drinking water quality throughout the area and help the current system run more efficiently. The people of Pennsylvania have seen significant rate increases in their utility bills over the past few years, and as legislators we need to aggressively work to reduce and reverse that trend. This grant will help alleviate costly projects from falling on the backs of the residents and their township authorities.”

The project aims to install granular-activated carbon filter vessels for treating perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at three well treatment sites. It also involves replacing well pumps and installing treatment vessels with heat-traced and insulated piping adjacent to existing facilities.
