HARRISBURG – U.S. Army combat veteran Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) is reminding Pennsylvania women who served in the armed forces that the deadline to register for a state Capitol ceremony celebrating their service is fast approaching on April 5.

The ceremony, scheduled for noon on Monday, June 10, aims to honor female veterans and their family members from all military conflicts. Pennycuick emphasized the inclusivity of the event, stating, “Grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters and other female family members from all military conflicts are included.”

Highlighting the importance of the event, Pennycuick encouraged female veterans and their families to participate, stating, “If you’re a female military veteran, or have a female family member who served, please contact us so that we can tell your story and inspire the next generation of women in uniform.”

Pennycuick, who sponsored legislation to observe Women Veterans Day in Pennsylvania annually on June 12, noted that the first Women Veterans Day Capitol exhibit took place in 2023. Reflecting on the historical context, it was mentioned that women have been serving in the American military since before the nation was established, with formal recognition as military members or veterans only occurring in 1948.

Looking towards the future, it is projected that by 2040, women will constitute 17% of the total veteran population, underscoring the growing significance of recognizing and honoring women's contributions to the military.

For those interested in participating in the ceremony or contributing to the exhibit featuring photos and biographies of women who served, registration and material upload can be done at SenatorPennycuick.com/Women-Veterans-Day. The deadline for all entries and RSVP information is April 5.

For further information or inquiries about the event, individuals can reach out to Lidia Di Fiore at (215) 541-2388.
