Senator Tracy Pennycuick has announced the allocation of three state grants for significant projects in Berks County. These grants are part of the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account – Category 4 Facilities Program, which is funded by revenue from Pennsylvania casinos to support community improvement initiatives in several counties.
Pennycuick emphasized the importance of these grants, stating, “I advocated for these grants because public infrastructure and recreation are essential for healthy communities, but come with a significant price tag.” She added that it is crucial for residents in Berks County to receive necessary assistance to complete these valuable projects.
Boyertown Borough will benefit from a grant of $66,462 intended for locker room renovations at the Boyertown YMCA. The Greater Philadelphia YMCA plans to transform an underutilized area into a new family locker room, addressing ongoing complaints and meeting diverse community needs.
Washington Township is set to receive $30,681 for purchasing new portable radios along with equipment installation and professional services. The current radio system in the township is outdated and poses safety concerns due to slower emergency response times and inadequate coverage. The project includes acquiring a UHF Repeater, 15 mobile radios, eight handheld radios, and related equipment.
Furthermore, Washington Township will be granted $100,000 to acquire and install an emergency generator at the Weinsteiger Road Pump Station. This generator aims to ensure efficient operation of the township’s sewer infrastructure during severe weather or major power outages.
