Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24), along with state Representative David Maloney, state Representative Mark Gillen, and state Representative Donna Scheuren, awarded a School Safety grant to Boyertown Area School District amounting to $525,607.

“Ensuring our schools are safe places for our kids to learn and grow is critical. These funds will support enhanced security programs throughout the district, including additional funding for mental health services,” said Pennycuick.

The school district will allocate just under $45,000 to fund equipment that will further enhance security monitoring systems across the district.

Additionally, $297,000 will be used to fund two police officers who will provide additional coverage at its high school of 2,200 students. Another officer will support the remaining school buildings without full-time police coverage. The district also plans to install concrete barriers for additional security at locations identified through physical security assessments of the buildings.

School officials also stated that $182,000 is earmarked for school mental health programming for students. The district plans to expand social worker services district-wide and hire a drug and alcohol counselor. Implementation of these enhancements and new programming is set to begin immediately.
