HARRISBURG – Rep. Donna Scheuren (R-Montgomery) announced today that three land parcels, equaling a 66-acre crop farm in New Hanover Township named Freeds Partnership #1, will benefit from an investment into Montgomery County to preserve farmland.

Of the $1,713,431 investment to preserve the farmland, $1,681,261 comes from the state and $32,170 comes from Montgomery County. With the financing for this preservation set to close in December 2024, much of this funding allotment will preserve Freeds farmland, located behind Freed’s Super Market.

This funding for Montgomery County is part of a $9.9 million investment statewide to purchase development rights for 2,654 acres on 30 farms in 14 counties, protecting them from future residential or commercial development. These conservation easement purchases ensure that Pennsylvania farmers will have the quality land they need to continue supporting families, communities and jobs in the future.

“Farmland preservation is not only a top priority for me but a critical issue for the 147th District as a whole,” said Scheuren. “Freeds Partnership #1 becomes the second farm in my district to be protected in the last 10 months, making sure this vital open space will not be used for commercial development or warehouse storage. It also ensures that Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry is protected and that our Commonwealth will continue to be a key partner of America’s farming system and food supply for generations to come.”
