Senator Tracy Pennycuick and Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity have announced the return of over $37,000 in unclaimed property to residents of Berks and Montgomery counties. This follows two events organized by Sen. Pennycuick in Bechtelsville and Schwenksville.

“It was terrific to see so many residents in Berks and Montgomery counties reclaim what is rightfully theirs,” said Sen. Pennycuick. She expressed gratitude for the state Treasury Department's efforts in returning unclaimed property.

Treasurer Garrity added, “Whether it’s $5 or more than $15,000, returning unclaimed property is always rewarding.” She emphasized the importance of these events, noting that more than 40 constituents were identified as having unclaimed property. Garrity encouraged people to use their website to check for any unclaimed funds from the $4.5 billion currently being processed.

The events took place on October 24 at Eastern Berks Fire Department Station 3 in Bechtelsville and Schwenksville Borough Hall. Residents received assistance from the Senator’s staff and Treasury’s outreach team in searching for unclaimed property.

Residents of the 24th Senatorial District can contact Sen. Pennycuick’s district office in Red Hill for help with searching or filing claims for unclaimed property.

The identified unclaimed property included funds turned over to Treasury from banks, credit unions, insurance companies, healthcare organizations, retailers, and others. The Treasury is working to return these funds to their rightful owners.

Unclaimed property can encompass dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, lost rebates, forgotten safe deposit boxes, among other things. State law mandates businesses report such property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.
