Rep. Donna Scheuren announced on Apr. 15 that a 41-acre equine farm at 704 Kulp Road in New Hanover Township has been preserved as part of Pennsylvania’s $10.2 million investment to protect more than 2,600 acres of farmland across the state.
The preservation increases the total amount of safeguarded farmland in the 147th District during Scheuren’s tenure to nearly 394 acres. The effort is part of ongoing work to maintain open space and limit future development.
“It’s another excellent day in the 147th District, as more of our beautiful farmland is now protected from future development,” said Scheuren. “From my first day in office, one of my main missions was to ensure open space and farmland were saved throughout our region, and in under four years, a combined 851.9 acres of both have been conserved.”
Funding for this project included $262,268 specifically allocated for the protection of this farm, with $259,758 coming from state funds and $2,510 contributed by Montgomery County.
Scheuren holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The College of New Jersey, according to the official website. She has served as chair or member on several legislative committees including Automation and Technology within Commerce Committee; Highways within Transportation Committee; Professional Licensure; Intergovernmental Affairs; Operations; Legislative Budget and Finance Committees according to her official biography.
In addition to her legislative work, Scheuren brings nearly three decades’ experience as a manufacturer’s representative and vice president in industrial commodities and manufacturing sectors. She also owns a small business and manages health benefits for her family’s construction company as reported by her office. Her background includes three terms on the Souderton Area School Board—serving as vice president and finance chairman—and service on other local educational boards according to her official biography. She resides in Lower Salford Township according to public records.
This recent preservation adds momentum toward protecting agricultural land locally while supporting broader statewide efforts.
