Senator Tracy Pennycuick has been reappointed as Chair of the Pennsylvania Senate Communications and Technology Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative session. In her role, she will focus on cyber security, artificial intelligence, and data security to promote a business environment conducive to innovation.

“From robotics to artificial intelligence (AI) to digital healthcare, Pennsylvania is leading the way in technological innovation,” said Pennycuick. “I’m thrilled to continue my work as Chair of the Communications and Technology Committee to help grow this thriving sector.”

In the previous session, the committee passed legislation establishing a comprehensive consumer information and privacy framework, enhanced protections for children on social media platforms, and updated broadband and telephone regulations. Efforts were also made to improve cybersecurity readiness for state and local governments along with cloud systems.

Pennycuick’s legislation became law as Act 125 of 2024, which closed a loophole by making it illegal to create sexual AI deepfake images. This provides law enforcement with tools to prosecute such crimes and protect children.

She also advocated for Act 33 of 2024, offering critical protection for victims of data breaches by ensuring affected individuals receive a free credit report and a year of credit monitoring.

For this session, Pennycuick aims to continue promoting tech innovation while addressing cyber security readiness, data security issues, privacy concerns, and examining additional measures related to AI’s rapid expansion.
