Applications are now open for the Grow PA Scholarship Grant program for the 2026-27 academic year, according to Pennsylvania State Senator Tracy Pennycuick (R-24). The program is designed to support in-state students who plan to pursue degrees or certifications in fields considered high-demand within Pennsylvania.

“The Grow PA Scholarship Grant program is a tremendous opportunity for Pennsylvania students to gain the skills they need for high-demand careers right here at home,” said Sen Pennycuick. “By supporting education in these critical fields, we are investing in both our workforce and the future of our commonwealth. I encourage all eligible students to apply and take advantage of this chance to grow their careers in Pennsylvania.”

The scholarship offers grants of up to $5,000 per year and is administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). Last year, nearly 5,700 recipients from 131 schools received grants through this initiative. To address increased interest, an additional $7.5 million was allocated for Grow PA in the state’s 2026-27 budget.

Eligible courses include agriculture, computer science, business, education (including special and STEM education), engineering, nursing, allied health, criminal justice, and other programs approved by PHEAA. A full list of qualifying study areas can be found on the agency’s website.

Applicants must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and commit to living and working in Pennsylvania in their chosen occupation after graduation—one year for each year they receive grant funding. Those who previously received a grant must reapply if they wish to continue receiving funds.

Grants are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. If recipients do not meet residency or employment requirements after graduation, their grant will convert into a loan that must be repaid.

Senator Pennycuick represents parts of Berks and Montgomery counties and focuses on job growth initiatives as well as support for veterans and law enforcement. She leads the Communications and Technology Committee in the Senate while also serving on committees related to veterans affairs. Her background includes over two decades of service in the U.S. Army—retiring as a lieutenant colonel—and work as a business consultant (official website). She has been involved with veteran organizations throughout her career.

Pennycuick began her military service as a combat medic before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia (official website). After retiring from active duty and reserves—including assignments during Desert Shield/Desert Storm—she continued public service through roles on veteran boards (official website).

She resides with her husband—a fellow Army veteran—in Harleysville; together they have four grown children and two grandchildren (official website).
