Rep. Donna Scheuren has announced a $16,250 grant awarded to New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program. The funding is designated for the expansion of the church’s Garden of Hope, which supplies food to those in need.

The project aims to double its harvest and work with other organizations to reach more individuals facing food insecurity. This initiative seeks to improve community health by enhancing access to affordable food.

“I am delighted to see the New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church included in the DCED’s recent grant awardees,” said Scheuren. “The organization does so much good through its Garden of Hope project. This funding will not only allow it to continue its current efforts but permit it to expand the program to even more people in need of healthy food.”

The Neighborhood Assistance Program supports nonprofit organizations by providing tax credits to businesses that contribute toward community revitalization projects. In this funding round, 218 projects across Pennsylvania will receive support.
