Senator Tracy Pennycuick and Representative Mark Gillen have announced the successful acquisition of a grant for Amity Township in Berks County. The funding, totaling $21,788, will be used to purchase solar-powered speed radar signs intended for deployment throughout the township.

The grant was secured through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account – Category 4 Facilities Program. This program allocates funds derived from Pennsylvania casinos to support community improvement initiatives across Berks, Cumberland, Westmoreland, and York Counties.

Senator Pennycuick expressed her satisfaction with the investment: “I am always happy to see investments like these made in our Berks County communities,” she stated. “The newly purchased equipment will help ensure the township’s roadways are safe for residents and visitors to use for many years to come.”

The speed radar signs are slated for installation in high-risk areas such as school zones and residential neighborhoods. Traffic studies indicate that these signs effectively reduce traffic speeds, enhancing safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
